New Ambulances in Northern Ireland are among the most highly equipped in
the
UK, it emerged today. Last June, 10 new ambulances from a 43-strong £4m
fleet began work in Ulster. Each ambulance vehicle in Northern Ireland
costs up to £100,000.
At the time ambulance chiefs said they hoped the bright yellow hi-tech
vehicles with security cameras on board, would cut down rising attacks on
paramedics. Despite precautions, attacks against vehicles and crew have
continued. The latest was on Friday when two crews were threatened while
on
duty, it emerged today.
The Service said that in two separate incidents - in Bangor and
Newtownabbey - crews were threatened with being shot. In one incident a
patients threatened to shoot the crew and himself before aiming a punch at
a
crew member. In the other, the patient also threatened to shoot the crew.
