I freecycled DS's car booster seat the other day. It was the low back
booster that I had bought right after DD2 was born and found that we could
not fit 3 car seats in the back of that station wagon I had at the time.
Bought a new, more compact booster seat for DS to use - there I was, back
again at every store I could think of with my ruler to measure each and
every booster seat to find the skinniest one out there (as I had done less
than a week before, IIRC, when hunting for a new infant seat for then
brand
new DD2.)
Turned out that this particular backless booster was the skinniest I could
locate and I bought it. Wasn't expensive - I think between $20 and $30.
We
used it for a very short time, as right after that I bought my van and DS
went back to his regular high back booster seat. No use for this low back
seat, as I will NOT put any of my children in a backless booster unless
there is absolutely no other choice (and with the wagon, there wasn't any
other choice - I had already the skinniest seat I could find in the city
for
both DDs, and then had to make do with DS's)
So, I freecycled it. Found a family that could use it as we only used it
for a month, maybe 2 at the most. It was still in excellent condition and
not used much, and the expiry date on it wasn't until Dec 2012 - tons of
life still left in it. Never been in an accident (after our accident
especially, I would NEVER think of passing on a seat that was involved in
any major OR minor accident) so at least it's gone and no longer sitting
in
my basement for another year and a half!
I also went through the maternity clothes I had picked up the last week or
two. I was given a few bags in total of clothes from a few other people
and
went through it all as I got it. I sorted out what fit (or would more
than
likely fit sooner or later) and stuff that I liked. I bagged up the rest,
which was mostly stuff that didn't fit well. I liked a number of items
that
I bagged up to pass on, but they didn't fit properly or looked like "WIDE
LOAD, COMING THROUGH!" on me. I put a post up on freecycle and said the
soonest to pick up would get it. Had a number of replies shortly after
and
one lady said she could pick up this evening as long as it was before
dark.
Gave her a call when I got home after putting the ad up and she came and
picked up the bag very quickly. So, a full packed blue recycle bag of
clothes that I have no use for is gone as well.
I hauled out a couple bags of garbage the other day. Mostly stuff from
DDs'
and DS's rooms. Another bag is almost full in the basement of garbage
(mostly broken toys and also the laundry room garbage) but it's not quite
full yet.
In the basement yesterday, I also managed to over fill a large diaper case
box full of stuff to give away. It's too full in the box to even try and
move, so I'll have to round up another box and hopefully make a trip to
the
donation when I have a few boxes packed to donate. Some shoes that I've
had
in a box for so long and haven't even looked at, a really (IMO) ugly
nursing
****rt that I never wore, some random toys, CDs, a few good, useful
computer
parts (I think there's a couple hubs and maybe a router) that I know work
just fine that I care not to keep as I don't need it. Kind of looking
forward to getting that stuff out, but seem to lack the cardboard boxes to
get rid of them. I don't want Goodwill to try and keep my good plastic
bins! LOL
